Beyond the Lights Celebrity Golf Classic

(PRWEB) December 21, 2007 -- Actors Kyle Chandler and Brad Leland of the critically acclaimed NBC television show "Friday Night Lights" have kicked off the inaugural Beyond the Lights Celebrity Golf Classic (http://www.beyondthelights.org) in Austin, Texas on March 7th, 2008 with a luncheon held at the event's venue, The Hyatt Lost Pines Resort and Spa.

 “  Friday Night Lights

The tournament will be held at the new, award-winning Wolfdancer Golf Club at the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort and Spa, and will benefit two charities: The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis/The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and Gridiron Heroes Spinal Cord Injury Foundation.

The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis is the world's largest, most comprehensive spinal cord injury research center, based at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The Gridiron Heroes is a central Texas charity that provides immediate and long-term resources and support to individuals sustaining catastrophic spinal cord injury through activities associated with high school football.

Slated to take place the same day SXSW opens, the Beyond the Lights Golf Classic features actors from both the Friday Night Lights TV series and motion picture, along with many other sports, music and entertainment celebrities.

The Tournament includes several contests, with prizes ranging from a Chevy Tahoe Hybrid, to a cruise, electronics package and golf clubs. The day's events will be followed by a cocktail reception, silent auction, Texas themed buffet dinner and awards ceremony. The evening will be capped off with a live performance for the Tournament attendees, their families and friends at the Hyatt's open-air amphitheater overlooking the Colorado River.

The hosts learned about those living with paralysis by getting to know and work with actors with real-life spinal cord injuries while shooting "Friday Night Lights". The first episode was inspired by real life events in which a community witnesses a tragic football accident - a spinal cord injury suffered by a high school star quarterback.

The strength, courage and determination of those young actors and others who live with paralysis moved and inspired the hosts into action. Their first annual Golf Classic hopes to create greater public awareness of those affected by spinal cord injuries and support those that focus on care, research and finding a cure for paralysis.
